Quick summary
Frost on walls usually means humid air entering through a poor seal or frequent opening. Frost on the rear freezer panel with weak cooling may indicate a defrost fault. Ice makers need adequate water pressure and the right settings.
No-frost fridges defrost the evaporator automatically. Visible frost build-up means extra moisture is entering or defrost isn't working properly.
Unplug the appliance, close the water tap if there's a leak, and never open covers that need tools or expose wiring or circuits.
Possible causes
Door not sealing
Moisture freezes on walls and food.
Frequent or long door opening
Especially on hot, humid days.
Defrost fault
dH (defrost temperature didn't rise as expected) or dS (defrost sensor) may appear.
Ice maker issues
Codes like IF (ice-maker fan), IS (ice-maker sensor) or It (ice-maker motor).
Water pressure or filter
On plumbed models, low pressure or an old filter reduces ice output.
Safe checks you can do
- Check the door closes fully with nothing obstructing it.
- Open doors briefly and never put hot food straight in.
- Make sure the ice maker is switched on in settings.
- On plumbed models, confirm the valve is open, the hose straight and the water filter is not overdue.
- Note any code on the display.
When to stop checking immediately
- Never chip ice with sharp tools—you can puncture walls or tubing.
- If dH, IF or IS appear.

When do you need a technician?
The technician tests the defrost heater and sensor, timer/board, freezer fan, ice maker and water valve, and performs a full defrost if needed.

FAQ
Can I defrost the freezer manually?
You can unplug and let it thaw with towels ready, but if frost returns quickly there's a fault to check.
Why is the ice maker slow?
Water pressure, an old filter or freezer settings are common reasons.
