Quick summary
Water inside the fridge usually means a blocked defrost drain. Water on the floor may come from the dispenser/ice-maker line, the drain pan or condensation from a poor seal.
During defrost, ice on the evaporator melts and drains into a pan at the bottom where compressor heat evaporates it. A blocked drain, cracked pan or wrong tilt sends water to unexpected places.
Unplug the appliance, close the water tap if there's a leak, and never open covers that need tools or expose wiring or circuits.
Possible causes
Blocked defrost drain
Food debris or ice in the drain channel.
Cracked drain pan
Water leaks under the fridge.
Dispenser or ice-maker connections
On plumbed models.
Door gaskets
Condensation from humid air entering.
Levelling
Wrong tilt changes the water path.
Safe checks you can do
- Find where the water is: inside, under the crisper, or on the floor?
- Check levelling per the installation guide (some models need a slight backward tilt to close doors).
- Inspect and clean the gaskets.
- On plumbed models, check the hose and fittings behind the fridge.
- If water comes from the supply line, close the feed valve.
When to stop checking immediately
- Unplug before moving the fridge or working behind it, and keep water away from the socket.
