Quick summary
Most common causes: a clogged pump filter, a kinked or badly positioned drain hose, or a blocked household drain. If the filter is clean, the hose is fine and you can't hear the pump, the pump or its supply needs a technician.
When water stays in the drum after washing, or the cycle stops with OE, the washer couldn't drain within its time limit. Most of the time the cause is a blockage you can check safely.
Unplug the appliance, close the water tap if there's a leak, and never open covers that need tools or expose wiring or circuits.
Possible causes
Clogged drain-pump filter
The filter behind the small front panel catches lint, coins and hair clips. Over time it chokes the flow until draining stops.
Kinked or blocked drain hose
Moving the washer for cleaning can kink the hose behind it, and an end fixed at the wrong height slows draining.
Blocked household drain
If the nearby sink or shared drain is slow, the problem is outside the washer.
Weak or failed drain pump
The pump may hum without moving water because something jams the impeller, or stop entirely due to an electrical fault.
Excess suds
Too much foam from non-HE detergent slows draining and may trigger Sud.
Safe checks you can do
- Stop and unplug the washer; let hot water cool first.
- Place a towel and a shallow tray under the filter cover and use the small emergency drain tube if fitted.
- Unscrew the filter slowly anticlockwise, clear lint and solid objects, and refit it tightly.
- Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked behind the machine and its end isn't pushed too deep into the standpipe.
- Pour some water into the nearby sink or drain to see whether the household drain is slow.
- Plug back in and run Rinse + Spin to test draining.
When to stop checking immediately
- Never open the filter while the water is hot.
- If the filter won't turn by hand, don't force it with sharp tools.
- If OE returns after cleaning the filter and hose.

When do you need a technician?
When the filter and hose are fine but OE comes back, the technician tests the drain pump, its connections and resistance, the internal water path and the board's response—and explains whether cleaning or a pump replacement is needed before work begins.

FAQ
What does OE mean on an LG washer?
It's a drain error: the washer couldn't drain within the expected time. See the OE code page for details.
How often should I clean the pump filter?
Check it regularly—many households do it monthly or when draining slows. Follow your model's manual.
Humming but no draining—is the pump faulty?
Humming can mean something is jamming the impeller or the pump is weak. Clean the filter first; if it persists, book a check.
