Quick summary
The washer only spins after draining and balancing the load, so check draining (OE) first and load distribution (UE) second. If the drum doesn't turn at all, the motor or its sensor may be at fault.
Spinning is the fastest stage, so the washer guards it with conditions: water drained, load balanced, door locked. If any condition fails, it reduces or skips the spin to protect itself.
Unplug the appliance, close the water tap if there's a leak, and never open covers that need tools or expose wiring or circuits.
Possible causes
Unbalanced load
One heavy item like a blanket, or a tiny load, bunches on one side—UE appears or spin speed is cancelled.
Water not fully drained
If water remains, spinning won't start. A blocked filter or hose indirectly prevents spinning.
Program or spin setting
Wool/delicate programs use gentle spins, or No Spin may be selected.
Washer not level
Uneven feet cause strong vibration, so the washer lowers speed.
Motor or speed-sensor issue
If the drum never turns or turns with difficulty, the motor, sensor or board may be at fault.
Safe checks you can do
- Make sure spin isn't set to No Spin and the program supports a high spin.
- Open the door after the cycle, redistribute clothes, and add a couple of medium items if you washed one heavy item.
- Wash blankets and bulky items one at a time on their dedicated program.
- Check draining: clean the filter and straighten the hose (see the not-draining guide).
- Check the washer is level with a spirit level, adjust the feet and tighten their lock nuts.
- Run Spin Only with a balanced load as a test.
When to stop checking immediately
- Never force the drum while the door is locked.
- If you hear metal grinding or smell burning from the motor.

When do you need a technician?
If the load is balanced and draining works but the washer still won't spin, the technician tests the motor, speed sensor and their wiring plus the suspension and dampers, then runs spin tests before and after the repair.

FAQ
Why does my LG washer spin sometimes and not others?
Usually load distribution differs between washes. Very small loads or single heavy items are hardest to balance.
How is UE related to no spin?
UE means the load is unbalanced, so the washer cancels high spin or retries. Redistribute the laundry.
