Quick summary
If the drum doesn't move at all, unplug and test whether it turns freely by hand: stiffness points to a trapped object or bearings. If it turns freely by hand but not in operation, the motor, its sensor or the board need testing.
On direct-drive washers the motor connects straight to the drum, reducing moving parts. But if the washer detects the motor isn't turning properly, it may show LE and stop to protect it.
Unplug the appliance, close the water tap if there's a leak, and never open covers that need tools or expose wiring or circuits.
Possible causes
Overload
A load larger than the program capacity strains the motor.
Object trapped between drum and tub
Like a bra wire or coin—causes friction or blocks rotation.
Motor or wiring fault
Damaged windings or a loose connector.
Rotor/speed sensor fault
If the board can't read speed, it may stop the motor.
Safe checks you can do
- Unplug, wait for the door to unlock and turn the drum slowly by hand.
- Reduce the load and restart a short program.
- If LE appears once, unplug for a minute and retry.
When to stop checking immediately
- If the drum is very stiff by hand or scrapes.
- If LE repeats more than once.

When do you need a technician?
The technician tests the motor stator and rotor, connections, speed sensor and board output, and safely removes trapped objects.

FAQ
What does LE mean on an LG washer?
A locked-motor/overload condition. See the LE code page.
Can I keep using it with LE?
Repeated running with LE isn't recommended as it may worsen damage.
